Join us on one of our live Sourdough Bread Workshops in JHB! Our sourdough course is for those who are interested in learning the natural sourdough bread baking process. We explore all the benefits of sourdough and cover the fundamentals of maintaining and using a sourdough culture to bake bread. We will also supply you with some of our 8-year-old culture that you can use to bake sourdough bread at home immediately. Sourdough bread is the purest form of bread baking and is extremely rewarding!

This course has been running since 2015 and is hosted by husband and wife team Nathan and Dominique who started the Crust and Crumb artisan bakery.

On the day, each attendee will make several different loaves of bread from scratch under our supervision and guidance. You’ll learn how to bake a classic white sourdough and a delicious sourdough rye bread.

– The sourdough bread-making process.
– How to harness natural yeast.
– Bread shaping techniques
 Different recipes.

Securing a Booking


After payment has been made, a booking confirmation email will be sent to notify you if your spot has been secured on the course. In the event that the workshop/course is already fully booked after you have made a booking payment, you will be notified and offered a refund or the option to choose a different available course booking date.




A workshop/course booking can be canceled, with a full refund, up to 14 days before the workshop/course date. Any booking that is canceled after this period is not eligible for a refund but may be rescheduled according to our rescheduling conditions below.

If you have booked a course but do not show up/attend on the booked course date, you will not be eligible to reschedule the booking after the course date nor will you be eligible for a refund.


Rescheduling a Booking


Bookings can be rescheduled with the following conditions:

Up to 7 days before the course/workshop date – you may reschedule/postpone your booking without any admin fee.
Less than 7 days before the course/workshop date  – R475 course admin fee to reschedule **

** Why the admin fee? There are various course/workshop-related expenses that cannot be recovered when we receive last-minute cancellations (travel, ingredients, marketing, etc.) If we can find people to replace the canceled spot, we often do not charge the admin fee. We also try to be as lenient as possible considering the current pandemic situation.

If you are unable to attend the course and do not want to reschedule the booking, you may elect other people to attend in your place. Simply notify us that you will not be attending and supply the name/s of the people that will be attending instead.


Redeeming a Voucher


Course gift vouchers are not refundable and are valid for one year after the date of purchase. Course gift vouchers may be redeemed to secure a course booking. A voucher is no longer valid once it has been redeemed to secure a course/workshop booking. Once a booking has been secured using a course gift voucher, the above cancellation and rescheduling conditions apply.

    Cannot achieve the perfect Tartine sour dough bread therefore taking the class
